Job Summary:
The Breakfast Cook is responsible for the preparation of a diverse range of cooked foods and ensuring excellent service to customers and colleagues. This position requires expertise in several cooking stations, including frying, griddling, pantry work, and egg preparation. The Breakfast Cook must communicate effectively regarding order times, potential delays, and kitchen-related issues to the manager and servers when needed. Furthermore, maintaining cleanliness, following food safety regulations, and contributing to the overall efficiency of kitchen operations are expected of the Cook. This is a non-exempt role that reports to management.
Essential Functions:
- Cook, flavor, taste, carve, and plate a range of food choices such as soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts based on specific recipes and product instructions.
- Ensure uniformity and quality by sampling food, adhering to standardized menus, and accurately estimating food quantities.
- Ensure accurate production record-keeping and procure needed supplies and kitchen equipment as necessary.
- Maintain exceptional food safety and sanitation standards that meet HACCP requirements, necessitating the maintenance of a sanitized work setting.
- Manage the operation of diverse kitchen appliances and tools like slicers, mixers, grills, fryers, and ovens.
- Use precise methods to gauge, mix, clean, peel, chop, and shred food items in meal preparations.
- Oversee stock quantities, organize items by expiration dates, and rotate food inventory periodically to ensure the quality and freshness of the products are maintained.
Necessary Credentials, Insight, Aptitudes, and Operational Conditions:
- The ideal candidate will have a background in food preparation and a solid understanding of HACCP requirements.
- A prerequisite for this position is a minimum of one year of closely related cooking experience, with a preference for candidates who have worked in a high-volume, casual dining setting.
- Sound knowledge of various culinary methods, like crafting soups, sautéing, broiling, frying, and managing pantry duties.
- Proficiency in comprehending, following, and implementing instructions, regulations, and meal selections, coupled with skillful communication with customers and coworkers.
- Capable of lifting and carrying items up to 40 pounds, as well as bending, twisting, and standing for extended periods.
- Regular contact with warm surroundings, sharp blades, kitchen implements, and hot dishes.
- Regularly immersing hands in water or cleaning solutions is essential for meeting hygiene and safety requirements.
