Job Summary:
The Chef holds the responsibility of preparing a variety of cooked foods and ensuring utmost service quality for customers and coworkers. Proficiency in operating multiple cooking stations such as frying, griddling, pantry, and egg preparation is essential for this role. The Chef must communicate effectively about ticket times, possible delays, and other kitchen-related issues to the manager on duty and servers as required. Additionally, the Cook is expected to maintain hygiene standards, adhere to food safety protocols, and contribute to the overall efficiency of kitchen operations. This position is non-exempt and reports to management.
Essential Functions:
- Create a selection of meals encompassing soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts by adhering to specific recipes and product instructions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and presenting.
- Preserve uniformity and high quality by sampling dishes, adhering to standard menus, and accurately predicting food quantities.
- Maintain precise production documentation and request necessary supplies and culinary tools as required.
- Enforce excellent food safety and sanitation procedures that align with HACCP standards, emphasizing the significance of a sanitary workspace.
- Employing a variety of kitchen equipment and tools, including slicers, mixers, grills, fryers, and ovens.
- Properly determine quantities, mix, wash, peel, slice, and grate components when readying meals.
- Monitor and control the amount of stock, categorize items based on their expiration dates, and systematically rotate food inventory to sustain the quality and freshness of the products.
Key Requirements, Understanding, Competences, and Job Setting:
- Demonstrated experience in food prep and a working knowledge of HACCP standards are mandatory for applicants.
- The desired candidate will have at least one year of closely related kitchen experience, preferably in a busy, informal restaurant.
- Proficiency in a range of cooking methods, which includes soup-making, sautéing, broiling, frying, and pantry tasks.
- Skill in interpreting, comprehending, and following instructions, guidelines, and dining selections, as well as facilitating productive communication with customers and coworkers.
- Skillful in handling weights of up to 40 pounds and executing activities that necessitate bending, twisting, and standing for extended periods.
- Repetitive interaction with high-temperature environments, sharp knives, cooking utensils, and hot plates.
- The immersion of hands in water or cleaning solutions is a standard practice to ensure hygiene and safety guidelines are followed.
