Job Summary:
The primary role of the Catering Cook is to prepare various cooked dishes and deliver top-tier service to customers and team members. Mastery in managing different cooking stations like frying, griddling, pantry work, and egg preparation is vital for this position. Effective communication of order times, possible delays, and kitchen-related concerns to the manager and servers is crucial for the Catering Cook. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness, following food safety guidelines, and supporting the overall effectiveness of kitchen functions are all part of the Cook's responsibilities. This role is non-exempt and involves reporting to management.
Essential Functions:
- Execute the preparation, seasoning, cooking, sampling, carving, and serving of diverse food offerings, including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts according to specific recipes and product directions.
- Maintain consistency and excellence by tasting dishes, following standardized menus, and estimating food needs accurately.
- Keep meticulous records of production activities and requisition vital supplies and kitchen gear as needed.
- Comply with rigorous food safety and sanitation guidelines set by HACCP, which involve upholding a clean and hygienic work environment.
- Carrying out tasks involving various kitchen equipment and tools like slicers, mixers, grills, fryers, and ovens.
- Employ correct techniques for measuring, blending, washing, peeling, cutting, and shredding ingredients while preparing meals.
- Maintain stock levels, arrange items by expiry date, and rotate food inventory on a regular basis while monitoring product temperatures to preserve quality and freshness.
Core Qualifications, Knowledge Base, Skills, and Professional Context:
- Prior food handling experience and knowledge of HACCP regulations are essential qualifications for this role.
- A year of directly relevant cooking experience is required, with a preference for individuals who have worked in a high-volume, laid-back dining environment.
- Thorough knowledge of a wide array of cooking techniques, such as soup preparation, sautéing, broiling, frying, and pantry management.
- Ability to understand, assimilate, and adhere to guidelines, policies, and culinary options while also engaging in effective dialogue with patrons and associates.
- Physically adept at lifting and moving objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and comfortable with tasks that involve bending, twisting, and standing for long periods.
- Continuous exposure to hot settings, sharp cutting instruments, culinary tools, and heated serving plates.
- Hands are frequently in contact with water or cleaning solutions as a means to comply with hygiene and safety standards.
