Job Summary:
The main task of the Assistant Cook is to prepare an assortment of cooked dishes and deliver a high standard of service to clients and colleagues. Proficiency in handling multiple cooking stations like frying, griddling, pantry work, and egg preparation is essential for this role. Effective communication regarding order timings, potential setbacks, and kitchen-related matters with the manager and servers is key for the Cook. Alongside this, maintaining hygiene, following food safety protocols, and supporting the overall efficiency of kitchen functions are integral parts of the Cook's obligations. This position is non-exempt and involves reporting to the management team.
Essential Functions:
- Utilize specific instructions and recipes to ready, season, prepare, sample, cut, and plate a variety of food options like soups, meats, veggies, and sweets.
- Guarantee consistency and high standards by sampling food, sticking to standardized menus, and precisely predicting food quantities.
- Maintain comprehensive production logs and procure necessary provisions and culinary devices as necessary.
- Implement and sustain high standards of food safety and sanitation in line with HACCP regulations, encompassing the upkeep of a tidy and sterile working area.
- Use different kitchen machinery and instruments including slicers, mixers, grills, fryers, and ovens.
- Precisely quantify, combine, cleanse, pare, slice, and tear materials when getting ready to cook.
- Keep track of stock quantities, organize items based on their expiration dates, and frequently change the position of food inventory to maintain its quality and freshness.
Basic Criteria, Understanding, Competencies, and Job Atmosphere:
- Candidates must possess prior experience in preparing food and familiarity with adhering to HACCP regulations.
- Candidates should possess a year of closely related culinary experience, with a preference for those who have worked in a busy, informal restaurant.
- Proficient in a variety of culinary techniques, encompassing the preparation of soups, sautéing, broiling, frying, and overseeing pantry functions.
- Capability to absorb, grasp, and comply with directives, protocols, and food selections, in addition to establishing clear communication with patrons and coworkers.
- Being able to lift and transport objects weighing up to 40 pounds, while also having the flexibility to bend, twist, and stand for extended periods of time.
- Exposure to high temperatures, sharp cutting tools, kitchen utensils, and hot serving plates on a regular basis.
- It is common for hands to be regularly soaked in water or cleaning agents to ensure cleanliness and safety measures are met.
